Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 4 - Chris Bosh

There comes a point in every draft where one must come to terms with the fact that he or she may choose to select a player that is liked for one reason or another. Unlike Sarge’s issues with Carlos Boozer, this does not have to be a bad thing. Perhaps the player stars for your home team. Or perhaps you cheered him on during his college days. Sometimes you cherish the memory of picking him in a past draft when he was still a diamond in the rough.
Of course, picking a player you like could either lead to double happiness if both you and the player have a successful season, or double misery if the player tanks which subsequently submarines your team.

Injury Update: Jose Calderon Tears Thigh

And you all wonder why I despise any sort of extra curricular basketball…
From the Toronto Star:
Jose Calderon will not play for Spain today in the Olympic men’s basketball semifinals.
The Raptor point guard has what’s being called a partial tear of the adductor muscle, an injury revealed after an MRI here on Thursday.
Toronto officials are following up with Spanish doctors to discover the severity of the injury, treatment options and a prognosis.
Obviously, there is plenty of time for Calderon to heal up. But with the Raps trading away TJ Ford, this is something that the team can ill afford. Don’t move him too far down your rankings quite yet, but Toronto’s assist machine will definitely be on the shelf for a few weeks.
Magazine League Winner: Brandon Haraway!

The Dropping Dimes team, along with some of our blogging friends, contributed to a pre-season magazine put out by Sports Eye Publications. Part of the magazine was a mock draft, which was done through e-mail. Momentum quickly swelled to make this draft a league, and I was the only one that suggested not to, voicing concerns about how much people would contribute to a league that was not one of their main ones. People wanted it to happen to the point that there was mention of finding someone else to manage my team.
Somewhat reluctantly I joined since we were already doing the draft. Plus, it was a chance to check out a league from by NBA.com and their Ultimate Fantasy Commisioner. Well, good thing I stuck around because the finals featured a match-up between myself and fellow Dime dropper, Brandon Haraway.

Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney Begins!

Our one-on-one tourney was a blast to conduct last year and you can click on the link to check it out. Spoiler alert! The link takes you to the winner being crowned and the page has links to all of the match-ups.
So what better way to follow that up but to double the pleasure, double the fun and make it a two-on-two tourney, people! G’yeah! There are only four more days before the regular season comes to a close. Thankfully us hoopheads have two months of playoff action to look forward to, but fantasy play dies down in favor of baseball, golf and barbeque unless you and your buddies set up a playoff pool. Sarge wrote this about Chris Bosh as part of his Sargent Says feature last week, after basking in the glow of another season of 24 kicking off. I am sure it is hard to keep up on Raptor news south of the border for obvious reasons. So here’s a friend helping a friend out.
Every so often on Dime Day, “Four Quarters” will feature one particular NBA team, going ten players deep into their roster. Whether it’s a small tidbit of news on the benchwarmers, or an opportunity to give major props to the all-stars around the league, as always we slant it towards the fantasy side of life.

POINTSBULLISH
Yao Ming, C, Houston Rockets
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 34.8 PPG; 50.9 FG%; 91.2 FT%
Usually, the top scorers are coming from everywhere BUT the center position. Indeed, the dominating scoring big man in the middle is a dying breed, but Yao Ming refuses to lay down softly and go the way of the Thighmaster. Face it people, Yao is here to stay unlike the Suzanne Somers product and he is undeniably the best center in the NBA. In his four games last week, Yao scored no less than 32 points in each contest and was feeling it so much he even attempted a trey from downtown! He miseed, but that’s about the only shot he’ll ever clang off the rim. And unlike other players that make a living down in the post, Yao hits his free throws allowing him to accumulate points from the charity stripe. Obviously, hold on to Yao like your league championship depended on it because it just might.

Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 3 G; 35.7 PPG; 47.9 FG%; 78.1 FT%
What does Benihana and Arenas have in common? HIBACHI!!! Apparently, whenever Agent Zero takes a shot, he’s saying the word “hibachi” with each stroke. This is just another example of Arenas’ quirky ways, but there’s no questioning it’s working, is there? Arenas is scoring a little more than six points more in the month of December than he did in November, thanks to slicing to the basket and getting to the charity stripe almost ten times a game. There hasn’t been this much success being off-kilter since Pee Wee Herman. Arenas’ stock is high, so keep your hands on him.

But, have no fear, we’re still the best fantasy basketball team out there (along with the fine folks at Give Me The Rock), so peep the rankings for Week Seven, but first check the number of games for each team. Word.
